Tik Tok begins 'TEST' limiting music use to Australian users & creators

TikTok is currently conducting a test in Australia to determine the importance of music in the videos posted by its users. As part of this experiment, the company has announced that it will be restricting access to certain songs for content creators. This limitation will only apply to a specific group of TikTok users.

Tik Tok stated “This will only affect certain music and is scheduled work while we analyse how sounds are accessed and added to videos, as well as looking to improve and enhance the wider Sounds Library”.

There is a disagreement between TikTok and music labels regarding the significance of music in the app's overall popularity. While music rights holders claim that their songs are a crucial component of TikTok's appeal, TikTok views music as just one aspect of a wider entertainment experience.

In the event that the usage of the app remains constant despite the reduction in the use of music, TikTok may argue that it does not need to compensate music rights holders as much. However, if the app's usage declines, this would support the music companies' assertions.
